If you're reading this article, you're either planning to build and run a website, or you're currently using hosting that has limitations or inconveniences.
If you're running a personal blog or website, building a server may be too much for you, in which case we recommend hosting.
Types of hosting and their pros and cons
There are two main types of hosting. They are web hosting and server hosting.
Web hosting is the practice of running multiple homepages on a single server.
We're talking about 100-500 homepages and 500-1,000+ homepages. Why are there so many homepages?
Server hardware has to be secure, unlike a regular desktop PC, because servers need to run 24/7, so they have high-end components.
Therefore, the price of a server is more than the price of a PC, and the price of a single branded server varies depending on the specifications, but generally ranges from 5,000,000 won to 100,000,000 won.
Hardware is expensive to buy, so hosting companies try to cram as many homepages as possible onto a single server and keep the server running as long as possible.
As a result, personal websites and those that use fewer hardware resources often run on older servers that are more than 10 years old.
Since multiple websites share hardware resources on a single server, access to your website can be slow during peak hours when users are most likely to be online, and if a particular website experiences a spike in traffic or uses a lot of hardware resources such as CPU and RAM, other websites hosted on the same server will be significantly affected.
Another disadvantage is that the user with the highest privileges on the server is controlled by the hosting company's administrators, so they cannot install system-related packages or programs on the server.
Server hosting utilizes one entire server independently.
So I only have my homepage on one server, so it uses all the line and hardware resources, so it's fast, but the monthly fee is about 5x to 10x more than web hosting.
It compensates for the shortcomings of web hosting, but the high monthly cost makes it out of reach for individuals.
These days, organizations are offering cloud hosting as a hybrid.
Examples include Amazon's AWS, Google's Cloud, and Microsoft's Azure.
Cloud hosting is similar to web hosting, but it completely isolates your hardware resources so that they are not affected by other websites.
This allows me to have the benefits of server hosting, but with as many hardware specifications as I want.
If you have a small number of connections, you can go low-end, and if you have a large number of connections, you can go high-end by increasing hardware resources.
This cloud hosting is available in both Windows and Linux hosting in Vivoldi.
Benefits of building a server
Most people who build servers probably do so because they're frustrated by the following
1) You're running multiple websites and can't afford to pay the monthly fee for multiple hosting.
2) If the number of daily visitors to your website has increased to the point where hosting is no longer an option.
3) You need a high-performance CPU, more RAM, or more disk space, but you can't afford the monthly fee for more hardware resources.
4) Your homepage has a lot of images and videos, and your daily or monthly traffic limits block access to your homepage, or your traffic costs are prohibitive.
5) If you're using it for development and testing, not to serve real users, but need the same specifications as a production server.
6) If you need to easily add a homepage, domain, etc. for testing purposes, but need to sign up for hosting every time you need to do so, you can use the
More and more people are building servers for a variety of other reasons.
Large organizations hire network engineers or server administrators to build their own servers, but if you're an individual, a small business, a medium-sized business, or a non-IT company, you may not be able to build a server and don't know where to turn for advice.
Let's take a look at some real-world examples.
In the studio where I photograph clients, I take about 200 to 300 photos at a time.
After selecting and editing your best shots, you'll compress and post a batch of photos to your studio's homepage.
Customers land on your studio's homepage and download your photos. When you have not just one or two customers, but dozens or hundreds, your traffic can be unimaginably high. In this case, your hosting may not allow you to access your homepage due to excessive traffic, or you may need to increase your traffic limits.
Even server hosting or cloud hosting is useless in front of this traffic.
This is because the cost of this traffic is many times more than the monthly fee for hosting.
Another example is a company that provides internet services to its customers.
Due to high CPU utilization and a high number of daily connections, traffic was staying higher than normal due to heavy data processing.
One day, I was contacted by a representative from my hosting company and informed that the CPU rate used by my website was so high that it was slowing down the websites of other customers using the same server and that I could no longer continue to use their hosting and that I needed to move to server hosting.
It's almost too good to be true, but it happens all around us.
Here are four of the most compelling advantages of building a server.
1) Unlimited traffic without restrictions
2) High-end hardware comparable to branded servers (server hardware specs are up to you)
3) A fast internet connection of 1 GB or more
4) 0 monthly fee
If you search for the keyword "build a server" in a search engine, you'll get tons of homepages.
Most of the websites are related to server parts or PC sales, hosting companies, website creation, and web design, which are not related to server building.
Vivoldi is a customer service and consulting -> Select server hardware -> Build a server -> Get a domain and SSL certificate -> Firewalls and network security -> We specialize in all-in-one services such as server maintenance and failover.
When it comes to building servers, we build web servers, file servers, mail servers, and image servers, but we don't build homepages.
Let Vivoldi take care of everything server-related and you can focus on how to make money.
