Frequently Used Terms

When you shorten a long URL using Vivoldi, a short URL is created.
The “Click Count” represents how many times that short URL has been clicked. Clicks on the original long URL directly are not counted.

Each time the short URL is clicked, the click count increases by +1.
However, if the same user clicks the same link again within 5 seconds, it is not counted. This helps prevent duplicate counts from accidental double-clicks.

📌 Want to exclude test clicks from the dashboard?

Have you ever clicked your short link from the dashboard just to test if it’s working properly?
This is a useful way to check for typos or mistakes in the long URL.

However, if these test clicks are included in the click count, it can distort your analytics.
To prevent this, Vivoldi provides a setting that excludes click counts only when clicking from within the dashboard.

How to set it up
From the left menu in the dashboard, go to Settings → Preferences, then select the Link Settings tab at the top.
Change the setting for “Increase click count when clicking a short link from the dashboard” to “Do not count or track clicks” and save.
After this, clicking a link from within the dashboard will no longer increase the click count.

📌 Can the system increase the click count automatically?

Have you ever seen the click count increase even though no one actually clicked the short link shared via messenger or blog?

This can happen when a system or app pre-checks the link to ensure it works, or
accesses the link automatically to generate a preview image or title.

For example, platforms like WordPress, Naver Blog, or Cafe, and messengers like KakaoTalk and LINE,
automatically fetch a preview when you paste a URL into a post or message.
This backend access is treated like a regular click and adds +1 to the click count.

📌 How does Vivoldi handle this?

Vivoldi is continuously improving its system to count only clicks made by real people.
Our AI filters detect and exclude automated or programmatic access from the click count.

This filtering system is constantly evolving, so you can use it with confidence.

“People Count” refers to the actual number of unique users who clicked the link.
Even if the same person clicks the link multiple times, the people count is recorded as 1.

For example, if a user clicks the vvd.bz/cxMr link now, again after 30 minutes, and once more after 2 hours:
- The Click Count will be recorded as 3.
- However, the People Count will remain at 1.

📌 How is the People Count calculated?

Vivoldi calculates the people count based on click data from the past 30 days.
Therefore, if the same user clicks the link multiple times within 30 days, the people count remains 1.

However, if the same user clicks again after 30 days, they are considered a new visitor, and the people count increases by +1.

For example, even if the click count is 100 today, it doesn't necessarily mean 100 different people clicked.
It could be that 20 people clicked once each, and the remaining 10 people clicked multiple times.

📌 Is the People Count based on IP address?

No. The people count is not based on IP addresses.
Vivoldi uses a unique browser identification technology to distinguish users, which is much more accurate than simple IP analysis.

If the same user clicks a link using multiple web browsers (e.g., Chrome, Safari, Edge), each browser is recognized as a separate user, and the people count may increase by +1 each time.

This method is designed to accurately identify users even in shared environments such as VPNs, public IPs, offices, or cafes.

“Traffic source” refers to information that shows which web page the user came from to reach your link.
Simply put, it indicates “Where did the click come from?”.

📌 Why is the traffic source important?

Have you posted marketing content on various platforms such as blogs, forums, communities, or YouTube?
If you’ve shared your short URL across different places, don’t just check the number of clicks — be sure to check which web page the clicks came from.

Knowing the traffic source greatly helps in planning your marketing strategy:
– For pages with high clicks, you can reinforce your marketing
– For pages with low engagement, you might consider editing the content or switching platforms

📌 There are limitations to traffic source tracking

Some websites (e.g., YouTube) restrict access to the full URL due to security policies.
In such cases, you can only see the domain name, not the specific video or post the click came from.

Also, if the user clicked the link from an email (like Outlook), a text message, or typed the short URL directly into the browser address bar,
there’s no referring page, so the traffic source will be marked as Direct, E-mail, SMS.

📌 How to view traffic source data

Vivoldi’s dashboard provides the following two analytics menus:
By Traffic Source: Statistics based on domain-level referral
By Traffic Source (Detailed): Shows full URL-level referral data

Most regular websites provide detailed URL info, so you can get more accurate data from the “By Traffic Source (Detailed)” menu.

📌 Want even more accurate traffic source analysis?

The free plan only offers limited traffic source information.
Upgrade your plan to access more in-depth insights and maximize your marketing performance.

‘Redirect’ means Re (again) + Direct (to guide), referring to the technology that automatically sends users to another URL.
Vivoldi’s short URLs also use this redirection feature to guide users from a short link → original long URL.

📌 What types of Redirects are available?

Vivoldi offers three types of redirects. Each method serves different purposes depending on your needs.

301 Redirect (Permanent Redirect)
  • Description: Informs the browser that the current URL has been permanently changed.
  • Browser behavior: The browser caches the URL and continues to redirect to the same destination.
  • Click count behavior: Even if the same user clicks multiple times, the click/user count increases only once.
  • Use case: Ideal for ads or marketing where unique visitors (UV) are more important than total visits.
  • Note: Once a user has accessed the original URL, they may continue being redirected to the old URL even after updates in the dashboard.
302 Redirect (Temporary Redirect) – Default in Vivoldi
  • Description: Indicates that the redirect is temporary and the original URL may be restored later.
  • Browser behavior: The URL is not cached; the browser checks the original URL every time.
  • Click count behavior: The click count increases every time the link is accessed.
  • Use case: Suitable when you need accurate tracking of click counts.
  • Note: Search engines treat 302 as temporary, which may be less favorable for SEO.
200 Redirect (Preview/Info Control Page)
  • Description: Not a redirect, but an HTML page that first shows meta information before redirecting.
  • Features:
    • Allows you to display a custom title, description, and image when shared on social media, messengers, or blogs.
    • The actual long URL is hidden; only the info set in Vivoldi is exposed.
  • Click count behavior: Treated the same as 302 Redirect.
  • Use case: Used for improving branding on social media or avoiding SEO penalties on blogs.
  • Note: Designed mainly for controlling preview appearance and visibility, not for statistical accuracy.

📌 How do I choose the right redirect method?

When creating a short URL in Vivoldi, you can select the redirect type (301 / 302 / 200).
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer — it’s important to choose based on your purpose.

If you're unsure, selecting the default option, 302 (Found), is perfectly fine. You can always change it later based on your needs.

When you create a short link with Vivoldi, it is by default composed of a vvd.bz domain + an auto-generated link ID.
Example: https://vvd.bz/cxMr

This structure is simple, but users cannot easily tell where the link leads before clicking it.

📌 Features of Branded Links

A branded link allows you to set a custom word instead of using an auto-generated link ID.
For example, a link to a laptop product page can be set as https://vvd.im/notebook or https://vvd.im/노트북.

Since users can guess what the link is about even before clicking, trust and click-through rates improve.

Note when creating a branded link:
  • Branded links are provided under the vvd.im domain.
    Example: https://vvd.im/macbook
  • Link IDs must be unique.
You cannot register a word that is already in use by another user.
  • Popular keywords may run out quickly, so if you have a preferred ID, register it now!
Even if someone else is already using a specific branded link ID, you can still freely use the same ID if it’s under your own domain.

📌 Want to use your own domain?

Branded link IDs cannot be duplicated within the shared vvd.im domain,
but you can freely use any word if you register your own domain with Vivoldi.

If you want to create short URLs with your own domain, go to [Manage Link Domains] to set it up.

You’ve probably received announcements or message notifications from apps while using your smartphone, right?
A common example is when you get a KakaoTalk message and a notification pops up — that’s a ‘push notification’.
Vivoldi uses web push notifications based on the browser, not app-based push notifications.
In other words, even if the user hasn’t installed any app on their smartphone, they can still receive push notifications simply by granting permission in their browser.

When creating a short URL, if you select the "Push Subscription Link" option, users who click the link won't be taken directly to the original page.
Instead, they’ll first see a screen requesting notification permission.
On this screen, users can allow or block notifications,
and regardless of their choice, they will still be redirected to the original long URL afterward.

However, if the user allows notifications,
you will be able to send them marketing messages and other push notifications,
potentially leading to high conversion rates.

Note: To send push messages, you must pre-load a balance,
and the cost per message will be deducted from your balance.

A domain is an identifier made up of letters, like example.com, that replaces hard-to-remember numeric IP addresses (e.g., 211.193.57.50).
Simply put, it’s an “address” on the internet that helps users easily access websites.

When you shorten a long URL with Vivoldi, it generates a short link in the following format:
https://vvd.bz/cxMr
Here, vvd.bz is the domain, and cxMr is the link ID.
The link ID is automatically generated by Vivoldi and is unique.

📌 Using a Brand Link

By default, the link ID is auto-generated,
but if you use the “Brand Link” option, you can manually set the link ID, including using Korean characters.
Example: https://vvd.im/노트북

📌 Creating Short Links with Your Own Domain

Vivoldi provides the default domain vvd.bz, but if you register your own domain with Vivoldi,
you can create short URLs using your custom domain instead of vvd.bz.
For example, if you register the domain marketing.com:
You’ll get links like https://marketing.com/4B6z

Over 90% of businesses and organizations register their own domains to enhance brand trust and increase click-through rates.

Note: To register a domain, you must configure its name server (DNS) with the information provided by Vivoldi.

If you don’t already have a domain, you can purchase one from providers such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains for approximately $10–20 per year.

You can register a domain through the Vivoldi dashboard under the “Link Domain Management” menu.
This feature is available for Premium plans and above.
