How to Automate SMS Coupon Delivery | Issue Digital Coupons Instantly via Phone Number

When running a discount coupon giveaway on your blog or social media, manually checking entries and sending coupons one by one can quickly become overwhelming. As more people sign up, filtering out duplicate requests and tracking issued quantities gets even harder.

With automated coupon delivery, a coupon is generated the moment a customer submits a request, and the coupon link is sent directly to their mobile phone via SMS. You don’t need to review each applicant manually or send out coupons individually.

Vivoldi’s Coupon Claim Page makes it easy to set up this workflow. Simply share the page URL on your blog, social media, or website, and customers can claim a coupon using just their mobile phone number—no account registration or app installation required.

In this guide, we’ll cover how automated coupon delivery works, how to set it up step by step, SMS delivery costs, and how duplicate claims are restricted.

How a store owner shares a coupon claim link and customers automatically receive a discount coupon via mobile SMS

What Is Automated Coupon Delivery?

Automated coupon delivery is a system that issues and sends coupons automatically based on customer requests or predefined rules.

Vivoldi’s Coupon Claim Page works by letting customers request a coupon directly on a web page.

  1. The operator creates a coupon group and a Coupon Claim Page.
  2. The operator shares the page URL on a blog, social media, or website.
  3. A customer visits the page, enters their mobile phone number, and agrees to the collection and use of personal information.
  4. When the customer clicks the [Get Coupon] button, one coupon is issued.
  5. The link to the issued coupon is sent to the customer’s mobile phone via SMS.

The key advantage here is that you don’t need to pre-generate multiple coupons in advance.

Once you configure a coupon group with your discount rate, redemption limit, and images, a new coupon is dynamically generated based on those settings each time a customer submits a request.

Because a separate coupon is created for each customer, you can track issuance records and redemption status individually.

How Does It Differ from Traditional Coupon Distribution?

There are several ways to automate coupon delivery. Common approaches include issuing coupons to registered online store members or distributing them through a KakaoTalk Channel.

Method Target Audience Best Used For
E-commerce Member Coupons Registered members who meet specific criteria (e.g., sign-up, purchase) Rewards for existing members
KakaoTalk Channel Coupons Users who view or claim coupons via a KakaoTalk Channel Channel-based customer engagement
Vivoldi Coupon Claim Page Customers who visit the page and request a coupon with their phone number Blog, social media, and in-store promotions

The advantage of Vivoldi’s Coupon Claim Page is that you can distribute coupons without needing an e-commerce membership system or requiring users to follow a messaging channel.

For example, if you post a discount promotion on Instagram and include the link to your Coupon Claim Page, anyone who sees the post can request a coupon right away.

On the other hand, if you want to automatically grant coupons based on membership tiers or purchase history, your e-commerce platform’s built-in member management and coupon features may be a better fit.

What Is the Customer Experience on the Coupon Claim Page?

The process is straightforward for customers.

When they open the shared link, they see the coupon image and event details configured by the operator. The customer enters their mobile phone number, agrees to the collection and use of personal information, and taps the [Get Coupon] button.

Once the request is submitted, the coupon link is sent via SMS. The customer simply taps the link in the text message to view their mobile coupon and presents the screen at the store.

Currently, the Coupon Claim Page supports South Korean mobile phone numbers starting with 010.

What Can Operators Configure and Manage?

Operators can configure the following settings on a Coupon Claim Page:

  • Coupon Offer: Percentage discount or fixed discount, redemption limit, and coupon image
  • Page Design: Title, description, featured image, button text, and button color
  • Validity Period: A set number of days from the issue date, or a specific expiration date
  • Issuance Rules: Start and end date/time for claiming, total issuance limit, and daily issuance limit
  • SMS Delivery: Sender phone number and custom SMS message text sent to customers

Once coupons are issued, you can track the issue timestamp, SMS delivery status, and redemption history directly from the dashboard.

Use Cases for Automated Coupon Delivery

1. Offering Discount Coupons to Blog Readers

Cafes or restaurants can link a Coupon Claim Page inside a blog post introducing a new menu item.

For instance, you can set up a 10% beverage discount coupon and cap the total issuance at 300 coupons.

Readers can request the coupon after reading the post and redeem the SMS coupon when visiting your store.

2. Running Instagram and Social Media Promotions

Share your Coupon Claim Page link in your Instagram bio or promotional posts.

For example, you could offer a 3,000 KRW discount coupon for first-time visitors, or run a two-week campaign limited to 50 coupons per day.

Because customers claim the coupons themselves, you don’t have to check comments or DMs and send links manually.

3. Providing Return-Visit Coupons via In-Store QR Codes

Place a QR Code linking to your Coupon Claim Page on restaurant tables or at the checkout counter.

Customers visiting your store can scan the QR Code to claim a discount coupon for their next visit.

By setting a validity period and enabling in-store redemption, you can manage everything from coupon issuance to redemption in one place.

The scenarios above are examples to illustrate how the feature works; actual discount rules and limits are fully customizable by the operator.

How to Set Up Automated Coupon Delivery in Vivoldi

In Vivoldi, you can configure everything from creating a coupon group to setting up SMS delivery right from the dashboard.

If you’re setting this up for the first time, follow the steps below.

Step 1. Connect Your SOLAPI Sender Number

To send coupons via text message, you first need to set up an SMS gateway service.

Vivoldi sends coupon text messages through SOLAPI, an external SMS service provider.

Follow these steps to connect your account:

  1. Sign up for a SOLAPI account.
  2. Register and verify your sender phone number in SOLAPI.
  3. Generate an API KEY and API SECRET in the SOLAPI Developer Hub.
  4. In the Vivoldi dashboard, go to SMS > Sender Number Management and click [Connect Sender Number].
  5. Enter your sender number and API credentials, then send a test SMS.
  6. Once the test message succeeds, complete the sender number connection.

Make sure your SOLAPI account has sufficient credit balance for sending text messages before connecting your sender number.

For a detailed walkthrough with screenshots, check out the Sender Number Registration and SOLAPI Integration Guide.

Step 2. Create a Coupon Group

In the Vivoldi dashboard, navigate to Coupon Management > Coupon Groups.

A coupon group defines the discount offer and redemption rules for the coupons that will be issued to customers.

For example, you can configure it as follows:

  • Coupon Name: First-Visit Customer Discount
  • Discount Offer: 10% percentage discount
  • Redemption Limit: 1 use
  • Redemption Method: In-store coupon
  • Coupon Image: Store promotional image

When you link this group to a Coupon Claim Page, a new coupon with these exact settings is generated each time a customer submits a request.

Step 3. Create a Coupon Claim Page

Go to Coupon Management > Coupon Claim Page and click [Create Page].

Under basic settings, enter the page name, issuer name, active status, and sender phone number.

Next, select the coupon group you created in the previous step and set the coupon’s validity period.

The validity period determines when the customer can redeem the coupon. Because it is managed separately from the issuance period (when customers can claim the coupon), make sure to align both with your campaign schedule.

Step 4. Customize the Customer-Facing Page

Configure the page title, description, featured image, button text, and button color.

Here is an example of how you might set it up:

Page Title: 10% Off Coupon for New Customers

Description: Special discount coupon for first-time visitors. Enter your mobile phone number to receive your coupon via SMS.

Button Text: Get Discount Coupon

Use the live preview on the page creation screen to see exactly how the page will appear to your customers.

We recommend stating the discount offer clearly in the title and explaining in the description that the coupon link will be delivered via text message after submitting.

Step 5. Write the Coupon SMS Message

Set up the text message that will be sent to customers once their coupon is issued.

Your message must include the {COUPON_URL} variable. When the text message is sent, this placeholder is automatically replaced with the unique coupon URL generated for that customer.

Example message:

[OO Cafe] Here is your 10% discount coupon.
{COUPON_URL}

Depending on the message length, it will be sent as a standard SMS or a long message (LMS), which may affect messaging rates.

Check the byte count and message type displayed on Vivoldi’s message editor before saving.

Step 6. Set Issuance Period and Quantity Limits

Configure the issuance rules to match how you want to run your promotion:

  • Issuance Period: The start and end date/time during which customers can request a coupon
  • Total Issuance Limit: The maximum number of coupons that can be issued across the entire campaign
  • Daily Issuance Limit: The maximum number of coupons that can be issued per day

For example, you can set the page to issue up to 50 coupons per day over a two-week period.

Keep in mind that even if you don’t set a specific quantity limit on the page, your Vivoldi plan’s monthly creation limit and your SOLAPI account balance and sending limits still apply.

Step 7. Save and Run a Live Test

Once you save your settings, you can copy the URL for your Coupon Claim Page.

Before sharing the link on your blog or social media, test the entire flow on a real mobile phone to verify the following:

  1. The claim page loads properly
  2. Entering a phone number and submitting the request works smoothly
  3. The text message arrives with a working coupon link
  4. The mobile coupon screen accurately displays the discount terms and validity period
  5. If configured as an in-store coupon, redeeming the coupon works as expected

How Do Customers Redeem Coupons Received via SMS?

SMS message containing a discount coupon link and the mobile coupon screen displayed when opened

Customers simply tap the coupon link in their text message to open their mobile coupon.

Coupons configured for in-store use can be marked as redeemed using a QR Code or a store PIN code.

Operators can view both issuance logs and redemption logs in the dashboard, making it easy to track how many coupons have been issued and which ones have been used.

Key Considerations When Running Automated Coupon Delivery

SMS Messaging Costs and Pricing Plans

The Coupon Claim Page feature is available on the Vivoldi Personal plan and above.

Unlike standard coupon creation, the Coupon Claim Page—where customers request coupons themselves and receive them via SMS—requires a paid subscription plan.

When running a campaign, you need to account for two separate costs and limits:

  • SMS delivery fees are deducted from your SOLAPI account balance.
  • Each coupon issued to a customer counts as 1 coupon toward your Vivoldi plan’s monthly creation limit.

Before launching a promotion, we recommend checking your expected number of participants alongside your SOLAPI credit balance and your monthly coupon creation allowance.

You can check the latest plan allowances on the Vivoldi Pricing Page.

Preventing Duplicate Claims from the Same Customer

On a single Coupon Claim Page, a coupon can be issued only once per mobile phone number.

If someone tries to apply again using a phone number that has already received a coupon, a duplicate claim notice is displayed.

However, because the restriction is based on the phone number, the system cannot prevent the same person from applying again using a different mobile phone number.

Additionally, the same phone number can claim coupons from different Coupon Claim Pages. Keep this in mind when running multiple claim pages simultaneously.

If an SMS delivery permanently fails and the issued coupon is revoked, that phone number becomes eligible to request the coupon again.

Can Customer Phone Numbers Be Used for Marketing?

The Coupon Claim Page is designed strictly to deliver coupons to customers.

Operators cannot download the raw mobile phone numbers entered by customers. The issuance log displays masked phone numbers, while information used to check for duplicate claims is managed separately.

As a result, you cannot use this feature to collect customer contact lists for future promotional SMS campaigns.

The claim page obtains consent for collecting and using personal information, allowing customers to review the collected items, purpose of use, and retention period.

Preventing Coupon Texts from Looking Like Spam or Smishing

Text messages containing links can sometimes be mistaken for smishing (SMS phishing) by cautious customers.

To build trust, include your actual store or brand name at the very beginning of the SMS message, and use the exact same issuer name on your Coupon Claim Page.

It also helps to clearly mention on the claim page that a text message will be sent immediately after they submit their request.

If you plan to include promotional content unrelated to delivering the requested coupon, you must separately verify and comply with applicable laws and regulations governing commercial electronic messages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to generate multiple coupons in advance?

No. Once you set up a coupon group, a new coupon is automatically generated one by one using the group’s discount and redemption rules each time a customer submits a request.

Do customers need to sign up for a Vivoldi account?

No. Customers simply open the shared Coupon Claim Page, enter a South Korean 010 mobile phone number, and agree to the required privacy consent to claim their coupon. No app installation is required either.

What happens if SMS delivery fails?

SMS delivery can occasionally fail due to insufficient SOLAPI balance, sender number issues, or carrier sending restrictions.

Once a delivery failure is finalized, the issued coupon is automatically revoked and your available issuance count is restored. You can check failed deliveries directly in the dashboard.

Is this feature available on the Free plan?

While basic coupon creation is available on Vivoldi’s Free plan, the Coupon Claim Page—which automatically issues coupons upon customer request and sends them via SMS—requires the Personal plan or higher.

Can I track whether customers have redeemed their coupons?

Yes. You can track both issuance history and in-store redemption status for each coupon in the dashboard. Redemption rules and usage limits are enforced based on your coupon group settings.

Automate Your Workflow from Coupon Request to SMS Delivery

Instead of sending coupons one by one during your next blog or social media giveaway, let customers claim their own offers through a dedicated Coupon Claim Page.

With Vivoldi, you can define discount rules in a coupon group, customize the customer-facing claim page, and tailor the SMS message. Every time a request comes in, a fresh coupon is generated and texted automatically.

With flexible controls over issuance limits and campaign dates, it adapts easily to everything from local cafe events to social media promotions.
